Registration for fall classes at community centers and pools now open

Registration for fall 2011 classes and programs at Seattle’s community centers and indoor pools is now open. You can browse offerings and register online using SPARC: Seattle Parks and Recreation Connection. Fall classes and programs at the Green Lake Community Center and Evans Pool (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) are listed in Seattle Parks and Recreation’s North East brochure. Currently, the brochure is only available online [PDF]. Due to a publication delay, the hard copy will not be out until later this week. The Center at St. Andrew’s (111 NE 80th St) is offering several classes this spring. All are welcome. How Can We Sing A New Song? New yoga memoir examines motherhood in North Seattle

Yesterday’s New York Times Sunday Book Review (Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010) includes a review, by Dani Shapiro, of local author Claire Dederer‘s new book Poser: My Life in Twenty-three Yoga Poses. Outdoor yoga classes at Green Lake Park benefit Yoga Behind Bars

Outdoor yoga classes are coming to Green Lake Park. The classes will benefit Yoga Behind Bars, a non-profit bringing yoga and meditation to incarcerated and at-risk adults and youth in the Seattle area.  The suggested donation for each class is $10. Classes are Sundays in July from 10 to 11 a.m., starting July 11, 2010.  All levels are welcome. Meet at Green Lake Park on the grass just south of the Green Lake Community Center, near the arch at the end of the shade plaza.

Acrobatics, slacklining, and hooping workshops coming to Green Lake Park

My Green Lake tipster Alaina sent us word of some very cool workshops coming to Green Lake Park: Sam Salwei of Team YogaSlackers and Adelaide of the Shimmy Sisters and America’s Got Talent are traveling over 5200 miles and stopping in at least 12 cities during a 31 day tour of the western United States- “Discovering Harmony in Duality” focusing on slackline, hoop dance, and partner acrobatic workshops.
