Free ‘Wellness Walk’ through Tangletown planned for May 21

A free Wellness Walk through Tangletown is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2011, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event highlights services at Active Wellness Chiropractic & Massage (2223 N 56th St), Tilia Natural Health (105 NE 56th St), and Thrive Natural Family Medicine (5020 Meridian Ave N). Neighborhood health care providers will open their doors to kids and adults during the walk. There will be free chair massages, a raffle, and events at each stop along the way. Registration for Woodland Soccer Club to open May 1

The Woodland Soccer Club (WSC) will open registration for 2011 Fall Recreational Soccer on Sunday, May 1, 2011. 1,100 kids and teens participate every year on WSC’s recreation soccer teams. The organization serves families in Green Lake, Wallingford, Fremont, and Phinney Ridge. The boundaries are N and NW 85th St to the north, the Lake Washington Ship Canal to the south, I-5 to the east, and 8th Ave NW to the west. Games take place at Green Lake Park and Wallingford Park.

Coming soon to east Green Lake: Irwin’s Bakery and Cafe

Irwin’s Neighborhood Bakery and Cafe is coming to Green Lake. Irwin’s office manager Cara tells us that the projected opening date is mid-April.  Demo has already started, she says, “and we are psyched!” The bakery and cafe will be located at 301 NE 65th St, across the street from Latona Pub, Mona’s Bistro and Lounge, Cafe Lulu, and Krittika Noodles & Thai Cuisine. The location previously held PetDaddy, a self-serve dog wash and dog boutique. PetDaddy closed after a drunk driver crashed into its storefront. Metro changing some bus routing and stops

On Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, King County Metro Transit is changing two dozen bus routes. Downtown routing and bus stops will be updated in order to keep people moving during long-term construction along the Seattle waterfront and in the SODO area. “Bus riders across Metro’s service area should check winter schedules for the routes they use most often to see what’s new,” a news release from Metro advises. “They can prepare by picking up a new blue timetable and the Special Rider Alert brochure, which is also posted on Metro Online. Language immersion in 2011 for McDonald School?

Last night about 100 parents met with the McDonald Elementary School principal and Seattle Public Schools representatives to learn more about plans to create an international, language-immersion program at Wallingford’s newest school. When the decision to make McDonald an international school was announced last month, fall 2012 was the target date to begin language immersion for kindergarteners.
