Daniel Bagley Elementary students let their feet do the talking on International Walk to School Day

Unfazed by the inconvenient morning showers, more than 150 Daniel Bagley Elementary (7821 Stone Ave N) students walked to school yesterday (Wednesday, October 5, 2011) on International Walk to School Day. Excluding 5th graders, who were laden down with luggage for their annual camping outing yesterday, that is nearly 50% of the available students. The event was part of a global effort, comprised of 40 countries, to encourage walkable communities. Several other Seattle schools, including Green Lake Elementary School, are also taking part. Green Lake Community Center seeks sponsors for 2011 Pathway of Lights

Updated Saturday, November 5, 2011. The 35th Pathway of Lights, the annual lighting of the path around Green Lake, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, 5-8 p.m., rain or shine. Admission is free. The “walk of lights” is lit up by luminarias that line Green Lake’s pathway. As many of 10,000 participants have attended in the past. As always, this year’s event will be sponsored by Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Seattle Parks and Recreation Green Lake Advisory Council. 2011 Seattle Steps Against Domestic Violence walk

photo credit: USAG-Humphreys The 4th annual Steps Against Domestic Violence-Seattle walk will be Sunday, October 30, 2011, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., at Green Lake Park. An event’s goals are to raise awareness about domestic violence and to raise funds for New Beginnings. New Beginnings’ mission is “to provide shelter, advocacy and support for battered women and their children; and to change attitudes and social institutions that foster and perpetuate violence.” Participants walk in memory of Marisa Peach, a native of Seattle who was murdered by her fiancé in 2007. 2011 Seattle CROP Hunger Walk at Green Lake

A CROP Hunger Walk around Green Lake is planned for tomorrow (Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011). The 2011 Green Lake Gobble & Mashed Potato Munch Off

The Green Lake Gobble & Mashed Potato Munch Off is returning to Green Lake Park on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011. More than 1,800 people are expected to attend. The event begins at 9:10 a.m. with a free Kids Dash, followed by a 5K run/walk at 9:30 a.m. The race course can be viewed here. Runners will have the opportunity to “Burn the Turkeys” by racing against one male and one female running the event in turkey costumes.
