Bystander saves man from drowning in Green Lake on the Fourth of July
A bystander saved a man from drowning last night (July 4, 2011) in Green Lake. Detective Mark Jamieson of the Seattle Police Department says that last night at approximately 7:45 p.m., police officers and the Seattle Fire Department responded to reports of a man pulled unconscious from the water at East Green Lake Beach (7201 E Green Lake Dr N). The beach is staffed by a lifeguard on sunny days during the summer, but only until 7 p.m. According to Det. Jamieson, the 32-year-old man was likely trying to swim to the dive platform when he encountered “an unknown problem.”…
Evans Pool temporarily closed [UPDATE - The pool is now open]
Update, 1:30 p.m. – the pool is now open again. Earlier: According to the Parks Department, the main circulation pump at Green Lake’s Evans Pool (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) has failed. Parks crews have ordered a replacement and are working to get the pool reopened. The Parks Department will use the Parkways blog to announce when the pool reopens. The nearest alternative pools are Ballard Pool (1471 NW 67th St) and Meadowbrook Pool (10515 35th Ave NE).

Green Lake’s Evans Pool (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) has introduced a new offering. SKWIMis a new water sport that combines elements from water polo and Ultimate Frisbee. Players wear fins designed specifically for game play and throw a soft and flexible disk. Fins and other equipment are provided by the pool for use at the facility.
