February events at Green Lake’s Evans Pool

Family movie set in Green Lake in the early ’70s

Many thanks to Tom Swafford for sharing the following video clip with us, a family movie from the early 1970s shot in the Green Lake neighborhood and at Green Lake Park. Tom, a violinist and composer, used thumb pianos and violin to create a soundtrack for the footage. NE 71st St, the Green Lake Community Center’s roundabout, and East Green Lake Beach can all be seen.

Green Lake Community Center and Evans Pool to close Dec. 18-26 for maintenance

The Green Lake Community Center and Evans Pool (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) will close Sunday, Dec. 18 – Monday Dec. 26, 2011 to allow for preventive maintenance on the gym floors. The floors will be refinished. Due to the nature of the work being done, the entire facility will be closed to the public. The public restrooms will be available for use, and can be accessed from the outside restroom doors. Parks Department seeks donations to swim lesson scholarship fund

Seattle Parks and Recreation is accepting donations large and small for the Learn to Swim Scholarship Fund. “Providing swimming lessons for children is our highest priority,” said Kathy Whitman, Parks Aquatics Manager, in a press release. “We have reduced our fees by 50% for those who qualify. We want to provide affordable swim lessons for all children, especially those who meet low income guidelines, but even 50% of the fee is still too expensive for many families.” This year, Parks has been especially challenged by the depletion in the scholarship budget caused by City budget reductions. Halloween 2011 in Green Lake

There will be a free Fall Pumpkin Swim at Evans Pool tomorrow evening (Friday, October 28, 2011), 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. The event features games, prizes and pumpkins in the pool.
