Candidates for Seattle School Board District 2 speak out

The race for Seattle School Board District 2 got very contentious today (Tuesday, October 11, 2011). Kate Martin is running against District 2 incumbent Sherry Carr in the  November 8, 2011 General Election. District 2 covers the Green Lake area and represents Bagley, B.F. Day, Green Lake, Greenwood, Hamilton International Middle School, McDonald Elementary, Middle College @ Wilson Pacific, Olympic View, Sacajawea, Seattle Evening School, Stanford International School and Whittier. Roosevelt High School Thriller Club available for October events

Margaret Kahn, the president of the Roosevelt High School Thriller Club, says that the club is looking for haunted houses, schools, parties, festivals or trick-or-treat events that will need entertainment this fall. The RHS Thriller Club is comprised of approximately twenty students that learn and perform Michael Jackson’s Thriller dance in full zombie regalia. In addition to performing at events, the students participate in a yearly worldwide simultaneous Thriller dance that has broken world records. The group is available on Friday afternoons, Friday evenings and weekends during October, 2011. There is a negotiable $25 charge per performance. Visit and tour Seattle Public Schools

Open Enrollment for the 2011-2012 Seattle Public Schools school year will take place March 15-31, 2011. Open Enrollment is the best time for students and families to choose the specific school they would like to attend.  You can read more about Open Enrollment here and you can find school assignments using an address look-up tool located here. Seattle Public Schools releases detailed school reports

Earlier today (Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010), Seattle Public Schools released detailed information about each school in the district, as well as a district-wide scorecard. The two-page School Reports showcase how each individual school is doing – from test scores to absence rates to family satisfaction with the school.  They show academic growth measurements, student/family engagement and the perceptions of environment and leadership at the school, and student proficiency on state tests.  They also include a narrative from each principal about how the school is working to improve outcomes for all students. “We hope School Reports help guide families in the…
