Local artist creates 30 paintings inspired by Green Lake

Local painter Amy Pleasant has created a series of 30 paintings that were inspired by Green Lake: The paintings were Amy’s contribution to the 30 Day Art Challenge, a month-long Seattle art event that took place in October. From Amy: It was a great experience and it turned out to be an experiment with color and abstraction all done to the backdrop of one of my favorite places, Green Lake.  If the sun is out, Seattle is there; walking, jogging, biking, roller blading, skate boarding. Community meeting planned to discuss N 63rd St and N 57th St murals

A group of neighbors is organizing an effort refurbish the murals on the walls of two neighborhood underpasses: the N 63rd St underpass under Aurora Ave N and the N 57th St underpass under Phinney Ave N. In May, Kerry Fowler put together a poll to gauge the community’s opinions about the N 63rd St underpass mural. “It’s amazing that the mural at 63rd Street and Aurora lasted as long as it did without vandalism. But now it’s an eyesore and it’s time to reclaim that space for our community,” the introduction to the poll read. Kari Boiter, Legislative Assistant to Rep. Iconography workshop coming soon to Tangletown

Local artist Brittany Faulkner is hosting an iconography workshop at her Tangletown studio, Friday Sept. 16 – Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The intensive workshop will be taught by iconographer MF Dondelinger. Students will learn the methods, materials and concepts of traditional, orthodox iconography and will complete a painting of the angel Gabrielle, pictured above. Free party featuring Beatles-inspired art and music at Sugarcomb Salon

Sugarcomb Salon (780 N 73rd St) is hosting a free party on Saturday, June 4, 2011, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The Beatles-inspired work of Seattle artist Casey Brookbush will be shown, and a to-be-announced lineup of musicians will be covering Beatles tunes.
