When the Seattle Public School District announced in fall 2009 that it would reopen McDonald Elementary as a neighborhood school, many parents in the attendance area lobbied for it to be an international school, like the popular John Stanford International School. Are you a licensed GMRS or ham radio operator? The Green Lake Community Council’s Emergency Preparedness Committee would like to hear from you. In the event of an emergency or disaster, the committee is planning on setting up four emergency hubs. These hubs will be places where Green Lake residents can get and share information, particularly if the power is out and phones are nonoperational. Friends of McDonald School announces new play structure
From Kathleen Ellsbury of Friends of McDonald School (114 NE 54th St): Looks like we’ll have a new play structure at McDonald School before long! With funds from the neighborhood, some employers, King County Youth Sports Facilities Grant program, and the City of Seattle’s neighborhood Matching Fund, we will be able to prepare for and install the structure below, as well as a concrete border and two concrete disability-compatible ramps. Green Lake Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee seeks volunteers
A Green Lake Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee has formed. The committee is working with the City of Seattle Emergency Operations Center and members of other community planning groups, including the Wallingford Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee. The Green Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee aims to have a plan in place so that Green Lake residents can get information and help in the event of an emergency or disaster.
