Seattle Public Schools releases transportation plan

Updated March 24 with information about McDonald Elementary School from our news partner My Wallingford. As school assignments start arriving in the mail, Seattle Public Schools has released its transportation zone plan for bus and walk zones for the 2011-12 school year. From the SPS website: In the new transportation plan, transportation eligibility for attendance area elementary and K-8 students will be based on transportation zones. Students within the transportation zone and outside the walk zone for a school will be eligible for District-provided transportation. Material salvaged from McDonald Elementary School available to public

Updated 11:15 p.m., Feb. 20, 2011 Reader James Taylor, who works at The RE Store (1440 NW 52nd St), wrote to tell us that the non-profit building material salvage store is currently salvaging materials from McDonald Elementary School (114 NE 54th St). McDonald Elementary School was closed in 1981. In 2009, Seattle Public Schools announced that the building would once again operate as an elementary school. Language immersion in 2011 for McDonald School?

Last night about 100 parents met with the McDonald Elementary School principal and Seattle Public Schools representatives to learn more about plans to create an international, language-immersion program at Wallingford’s newest school. When the decision to make McDonald an international school was announced last month, fall 2012 was the target date to begin language immersion for kindergarteners.
