Author of “Soccer Dreams: Playing the Seattle Sounders FC Way” to visit Mockingbird Books

Children’s author Clare Hodgson Meeker will be at Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at 4 p.m. Clare will share the story behind her book Soccer Dreams: Playing the Seattle Sounders FC Way and will give tips on teamwork from the Sounders FC. Participants will also make their own soccer balls out of plastic bags tied with nylon rope. The event is appropriate for ages 7-12. Family story time and evening baby time at the Green Lake Library

Joanna Trefethen, Children’s Librarian at the Green Lake Branch Library (7364 E Green Lake Dr N), reports that family story time and evening baby time are starting up again at the library. Family story time includes stories, music and other fun activities. The program begins on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 at 11:15 a.m. Evening baby time starts up again on Monday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. The program is offered once a month and teaches parents and caregivers fun ways to increase the pre-literacy skills of babies 0-12 months old while enjoying books, music, tummy tickles and meeting other parents and their babies. Green Lake Library hopes to reach Summer Reading goal before week-long closure next week

The Seattle Public Library system will be closed next week due to citywide budget cuts and the Labor Day holiday. The Green Lake Branch (7364 E Green Lake Dr N) will be closed Sunday, August 28 through Monday, September 5, 2011. It will open again on Tuesday, September 6. Most Library services will be unavailable during the one-week closure. No materials will be due and no fines will be charged. No book drops will be open. Donate new books to children in need at Mockingbird Books

Green Lake’s Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) is hosting a book drive from Saturday, July 16 to Sunday, July 31, 2011. The event is a part of the Books for Kids Book Drive, a state-wide program sponsored by Page Ahead Children’s Literacy Program and Northwest Book Lovers. During the Books for Kids Book Drive, 26 independent book stores across Washington State will offer their customers the opportunity to purchase a new children’s book to donate to a child in need. Katy Webber to lead musical story time at Green Lake’s Mockingbird Books

Katy Webber will be leading the 11 a.m. story time this Saturday (July 16, 2011) at Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE). The event is free. Katy teaches Katy’s Musikal Magik, a popular early-childhood music program, at local community centers, including the Green Lake Community Center. “She’s delights audiences wherever she goes with her songs and movement and we are thrilled to have her back in the store once again,” Linda Spoor at Mockingbird Books says.
