The session will be presented in English and Spanish. Children are welcome and supervision will be provided.

Seattle Amistad School is is an independent, two-way (Spanish/English) immersion school serving grades pre-K-5. It will open in September 2012 in the Central District (2410 E Cherry St).

Sweetheart Potluck at Evans Pool

Kerrie Stoops, Assistant Aquatic Center Coordinator at Evans Pool (7201 E Green Lake Dr N), asked us to share news about two upcoming events at the pool:

Neighborhood Appreciation and Sweetheart Potluck at Evans Pool
Saturday February 11^th noon-2:30pm
Bring a dish to share at this free event!  Live music, family fun, friends, and food!  Everyone welcome.

Date Night at Evans Pool
Tuesday February 14^th 6-10pm
Children 6-13 years old are invited to join us for activities, playing SKWIM, watching a movie, and enjoying a snack while parents have a night out.
$25/child – registration can be done online, over the phone (206-684-4961) or in person.
Note:  Please pack suit and towel.  We are only serving snacks during this program.  Child should eat dinner prior to being dropped off.

We have got our beer and wine license and will starting opening 9am-9pm daily starting Feb. 11. 2012.

We added pasta to the menu starting at $7.95 , with our house made basil tomato sauce, creamy Alfredo or Creamy Pesto and Chicken. Crepes and panini are served all day.

Imported and Washington wines are available by glass.

On Valentine’s Day, we offer complementary suprivised kids play, so the parents can have a nice dinner at our cafe.

Reservations are recommended 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.

The Green Lake Community Center Toddler Play Center is available to children aged 6 months – 5 years and their caregivers. Its regular operating hours are Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. It is available for rent on Saturdays and Sundays.

The School Board approved the plan with a 7-0 vote last night (Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012). It was developed following input from the Facilities and Capital Management Advisory Committee. Input was also considered from about 300 attendees at six community meetings and about 550 written comments.

The plan includes boundary adjustments to John Stanford International School (4057 5 Ave NE),  B.F. Day Elementary School (3921 Linden Ave N) and McDonald Elementary School (temporarily located at 4400 Interlake Ave N). McDonald serves children from Wallingford, Green Lake and the University District.

The new boundaries will be in effect beginning with the 2012-13 school year. Families in will be able to determine their school boundary with an online address lookup tool starting Tuesday, Jan 31.

No reservations required; just show up!

Meet in the Cafeteria at the beginning of the tour. Adults only, please (babes in arms OK): there will be opportunities for incoming students to see the school and meet other students over the spring and summer.

Families particularly interested in Special Education services are encouraged to attend the first tour on January 25th.

The camps will be held at the Green Lake Bathhouse (7312 West Green Lake Dr N) Feb. 21-25, 2012. Financial aid is available.

SPT provided the following information about the theater camps, which were created by SPT Artistic and Education Director Shana Bestock:

Circus Skills for Actors – Under the direction of Sam Vance, students will develop their physical theater skills in this unique partnership between SPT and Teatro ZinZanni! Classic clowning, circus skills, mime, lazzi and character development–all these skills are great tools whether kids are beginners or seasoned actors. Students will practice flexibility and specificity, deepen their craft, and have fun working in an ensemble. Plus, they’ll get a few master classes from world-famous professional circus performers! The week culminates in a sharing for family and friends full of laughing, gasping, and applauding! Open to students in grades 3-5.

Orpheus In the Underworld – Under the stage direction of SPT Artistic Associate Kelly Kitchens and the music direction of Seattle Opera Youth Program Director Barbara Lynne Jamison, students will dive into Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld. This camp continues SPT’s successful and growing relationship with Seattle Opera. Open to students in grades 6-12.

Technical Internships and Teaching Assistant positions available for grades 9-12; get service learning hours while having fun, giving back to your community, and gaining valuable life and leadership skills.

Our school is on south end of Green Lake, near the Woodland Park Zoo south entrance and many of our current students (and alums) reside in the Green Lake neighborhood.

This is the time of year when many neighborhood families will be exploring elementary schools, hoping to find just the right fit for their child. For more than 20 years, KapKa, a cooperative K-5 school, has offered an excellent progressive elementary education in our neighborhood with inspiring teachers and small class sizes.

At KapKa, we believe in educating the whole child; taking care to support each child’s academic, social and emotional growth. KapKa provides an experience-centered, integrated curriculum. With strong involvement and support of our parents, passionate teachers and staff, our students are challenged to develop the academic and social skills necessary to be inquisitive, thoughtful, caring and contributing members of our community.

This fall, KapKa moved three blocks from our eleven-year home at the “Little Red Schoolhouse” on Linden Avenue to our current location within the Emmanuel Bible Church complex near Woodland Park.
