Seattle Police Department may label Aurora’s Everspring Inn a “nuisance property”

SeattleCrime.com reported earlier today (Tuesday, May 10, 2011) that the Seattle Police Department may be preparing a letter to send to the Everspring Inn (8201 Aurora Ave N) which would “force the owners to clean up their business or shut it down.” The letter reportedly cites Seattle’s Chronic Nuisance Property Ordinance and references frequent police calls to the motel. In February 2010, police responded to a physical and sexual assault at the Everspring and in April 2011 a stash of stolen bicycles was found at a room at the motel. Casey McNerthney at seattlepi.com provided this information about the Chronic Nuisance Property Ordinance: The ordinance defines…

Sunday Photo: The Green Lake Motel

On Sundays, we feature a great shot of our park or neighborhood from the MyGreenLake Flickr Pool. This week’s photo, by Grundlepuck, is historical in nature. Shot in May 10, 2008, it features the roadside sign from the now-closed Green Lake Motel, which once operated out of 8900 Aurora Ave N. The Green Lake Motel was one of many roadside inns built when state Route 99 (a.k.a. Aurora Ave) was the main north-south arterial through Seattle. “The motel-ificication” of Route 99 took off in 1962, according Leonard Garfield of the Museum of History and Industry, who was quoted in this 2009 seattlepi.com Big Blog post. 1962…

Aurora motel ‘Everspring Inn’ for sale

This story is by Ben. K., who writes at Aurora|Seattle.  Thanks Ben! Another Aurora Avenue motel is for sale.  But this time it isn’t a motel owned and operated by Dean and Jill Inman, the former owners of a handful of troubled Aurora motels – two of which were required to be sold under the terms of a April 2010 plea agreement that followed 180 criminal charges for tax violations brought by the city against the owners in August of 2009 (the future of these motels still remains uncertain). And this time it’s a bit north of Fremont too.  The Everspring Inn, located at 8201…

Murder-suicide at the Way West Motel

The bodies of a man and a woman were found today (Monday, May 3, 2010) in Room 11 of the Way West Motel (8600 Aurora Ave N). At 12:45 p.m. this afternoon, I received a heads-up from My Green Lake tipster Steve G. that police were on their way to the motel. When I got to the scene, the police had arrived and were coming in and out of Room 11.  Through the open front door of the room I could see a man’s body slumped on the couch.  Smoke was billowing out of the room (I’m guessing as a…
