The 2010 Freestyle Disc World Championships begin tomorrow (Thursday, August 5, 2010) at Green Lake Park and run through Sunday. Woodland Park Soccer Field Renovations

Last night, at the Friends of Green Lake monthly meeting, attendees heard from Kevin Stoops, Director of Planning and Development of the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation. Kevin, who has a long history of involvement in the environmental health of Green Lake Park, spoke about the recent field renovations at Woodland Park and the steps the Parks Department is taking to monitor the environmental impact of the new fields. Lower Woodland Park Playfields Construction Underway

We heard about the improvements planned for playfields numbers 2 and 7 at the last Friends of Green Lake and Green Lake Community Council meetings and you’ve probably noticed that work has begun. The two dirt fields will soon be replaced with synthetic turf. See the Parks and Rec website for location info and before and after imagery. The synthetic turf is a good thing and will create less runoff into the lake. The men in hardhats and work trucks will be part of the landscape throughout the summer.
