Donate nonperishable food at the Green Lake Community Center

Jeff Skinner, Green Lake Community Center Coordinator, asked that we share this note with the Green Lake neighborhood: Thanks to the participants of Green Lake Community Center and Evans Pool, the community center has been able to donate over 850 pounds of nonperishable food items to Northwest Harvest and The Greenwood Volunteers of America Food Bank since the beginning of 2012. The collection box is just inside the main community center/pool entrance.  Nearly 100 pounds of food was collected at this year’s Spring Egg Scramble.  Thank you all for your continued support.

Green Lake Mio Sushi to open in April

Update, Thursday April 12: Mio Sushi is now open. (Thanks for the tip, Beau!)   Mio Sushi, the franchise restaurant that is opening a new location at Lakeside Plaza (7900 East Green Lake Dr N), issued a press release yesterday (Wednesday, March 21, 2012). According to the press release, the Green Lake Mio Sushi will open in early April. Sushi restaurant coming soon to north Green Lake

Trattoria Cioppino (7900 East Green Lake Dr N) has closed, just nine months after opening. The Italian restaurant’s final night was on Wednesday (Feb. 29, 2012). A franchise-owned restaurant, Mio Sushi, will be going into the space. Mio Sushi is, according to its website, a ”group of locally-owned full-service Japanese restaurants that offer fresh and high-quality foods in a casual and family-friendly ambiance.” Mio’s menu is available here. Charlie’s Buns N’ Stuff to open a concession stand on Green Lake

The Seattle Met reports that Charlie’s Buns N’ Stuff is opening a concession stand on Green Lake. The stand will be located near West Green Lake Beach and will open in mid-April. The owner, Veronica Weaver, reportedly has a five-year contract with Seattle Parks and Recreation. Charlie’s Buns N’ Stuff is a food truck that offers American diner fare. The new Green Lake stand will stay open year-round, the Seattle Met reports, and the menu will fluctuate depending on the season: For example, Weaver tossed around the idea of setting up a grill outside in warmer months.
