Many thanks to Tom Swafford for sharing the following video clip with us, a family movie from the early 1970s shot in the Green Lake neighborhood and at Green Lake Park. Tom, a violinist and composer, used thumb pianos and violin to create a soundtrack for the footage. NE 71st St, the Green Lake Community Center’s roundabout, and East Green Lake Beach can all be seen.

Short film features local personality Stephen Measures
Many thanks to David Albright of Seattle On Screen for pointing us in the direction of the short documentary “Mayor Measures.” The film features Green Lake resident Stephen Measures, as well as some of Stephen’s favorite neighborhood haunts, including Beth’s Cafe (7311 Aurora Ave N) and the Kangaroo & Kiwi Pub (7305 Aurora Ave N). Mayor Measures was made by Type Face Productions (Denise Doherty, Piper Hanson and Adam Knight) for the 2011 Doc Challenge, “a timed filmmaking competition where filmmaking teams from around the world have just 5 days to make a short documentary film.” The film’s music was by Aaron Cherof, with lyrics by Roger Waters.
Sean Penn seen running around Green Lake
Sean Penn was at Green Lake Park earlier this evening (Monday, July 18, 2011), according to reports from people at the park. Just before 5 p.m., Charlotte Smith tweeted “Just lapped Sean Penn @ greenlake. Not kidding.” Less than an hour later, “Carol Anonymous” added that her daughter had also seen the Academy Award-winning actor running around Green Lake, and over on Facebook, Karen Laurie of Cafe Lulu asked, “Any idea what Sean Penn is doing in town? Movie shoot moves from Green Lake to Maple Leaf
Scenes from an indie film called “Safety Not Guaranteed” were shot in Green Lake last week, and today the cast and crew are in Maple Leaf. Green Lake resident Joshua Tufts reports seeing film production vehicles last Monday (May 16, 2011) on Bagley Ave N just north of East Green Lake Dr N.
