More than three dozen participants came out for today’s New Year’s Day Bad Wig and Ugly Tracksuit Walk at Green Lake Park.

The New Year’s Day Bad Wig and Ugly Tracksuit Walk is returning to Green Lake Park this Sunday (Jan. 1, 2012) at noon.

The walk starts at the Green Lake wading pool, which is located on the north end of Green Lake Park at Wallingford Ave N & East Green Lake Dr N.

Sugarcomb Hair Salon fashion show and fundraiser for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Sugarcomb Hair Salon (780 N 73rd St) is hosting a fashion show and fundraiser on Saturday, September 24, 2011, 6 p.m. -9 p.m.

The event will begin with specialty cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. A DJ will be spinning records and Rick Friel will MC.

At 7 p.m. there will be a fall fashion show. The show will feature Kate Burt, who was named ”Emerging Designer for Best Everyday Wear” at this year’s Seamless in Seattle, designer Gwen Stubbs of Lekkerlife Clothing, designer Susan Fedore from Una, and local jewelry designer Birna Sigurbjornsdottir.

Hair will be by Sugarcomb Salon and makeup will be by Katrina Kromm.

Following the fashion show, the designers will have items for sale in a trunk show.

The night will end with a raffle. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The New Year’s Day Bad Wig and Ugly Tracksuit Walk is returning to Green Lake this Saturday (Jan. 1, 2011). The walk starts at noon at the Green Lake wading pool, which is located on the north end of Green Lake Park at Wallingford Ave N & East Green Lake Dr N. “Luckily,” a post about the event on Seattle Twistreads, “wigs do offer some insulation from hangovers and there’s no need to fret about bad bed-head.” The walk will happen rain or shine and kids are welcome.

Bad Christmas sweater party at the Kangaroo & Kiwi

The Kangaroo & Kiwi (7305 Aurora Ave N) is once again holding a “bad sweater party.”

A message sent out to Kangaroo & Kiwi fans via facebook explains the party this way: “Get a bad xmas sweater,wear it,love it,look silly!”

The event will be Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010.

Costume sale at the Green Lake Bathhouse on Saturday

The Seattle Public Theater at the Green Lake Bathhouse (7312 West Green Lake Dr N) is having a costume sale this Saturday (Oct. 23, 2010), 2-4 p.m.

“Shoppers will be able to grab an affordable costume for Halloween or a special night on the town,” Front of House Manager Patrick Lennon told us. “They can support a local non-profit community organization at the same time.”

Only cash and checks (with I.D.) will be accepted. All items will be sold as is, and there will be no refunds or exchanges.

“Most items will be in the $5-$10 range,” says Patrick, “but some of the nicer professional costumes will go for $20-$30. We will also be selling professional stage blood at very affordable prices, to add some extra color to those zombie or CSI victim costumes.”

New Balance sample sale coming to Green Lake

Cindy Thomas, a local New Balance apparel and shoe rep, will be holding a New Balance sample sale in the neighborhood on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Over $15,000 worth of sample outfits will be will be sold at or below cost, at least 50 percent below retail prices.

Most of the clothing will be available in women’s size M and men’s size L.

The sale will be held at 6416 Latona Ave NE.

Green Lake business creates a "runner's wedding dress"

Green-Lake-based women’s running apparel company Oiselle launched their fall collection yesterday (Wednesday, Sept 15, 2010).

One item, pegged ‘Runaway Bride,’ is getting a lot of attention. A “runner’s wedding dress,” the garment is designed for women who want to get married while or after running a marathon.

“We want the woman to feel that she is the queen of the day,” says Sally Bergesen of Oiselle, “but also have a sporty essence to it as well.”

Scenes from today’s 100th anniversary celebration at the Green Lake Library

The Green Lake Branch of The Seattle Public Library (7364 E Green Lake Dr N) celebrated its 100th anniversary today (Saturday, July 31, 2010).

Visitors were treated to live piano music from the early 1900s and an exhibit of vintage clothing and hats from Goodwill’s Vintage Fashion Collection:
