Volunteers needed for Green Lake emergency preparedness event

At Wednesday’s Green Lake Community Council meeting, Paul Kostek shared news about an upcoming emergency preparedness event at Green Lake Park. Christchurch earthquake benefit event at The Kangaroo & Kiwi Pub

The Kangaroo & Kiwi Pub (7305 Aurora Ave N) is raising money to support the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. The pub will be holding a benefit event next Friday (March 11, 2011). The event will begin with happy hour at 5 p.m., followed by an auction and raffles. A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Christchurch, New Zealand on February 22, 2011. Green Lake Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee seeks volunteers

The Green Lake Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee, which first began meeting this past summer, is hoping to attract some more volunteers. The committee is working with the City of Seattle Emergency Operations Center and members of other community planning groups, including the Wallingford Community Council Emergency Preparedness Committee. Green Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee to meet on Sept 29

All are invited to join the Green Lake Community Council’s Emergency Preparedness Committee at their next meeting. The meeting will be 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 in the Board Room at The Hearthstone (6720 E Green Lake Way N). Mark Howard of the Seattle Office of Emergency Management will be speaking on the City of Seattle’s emergency preparedness efforts.  The committee will then begin to create an Emergency Preparedness Work Plan for Green Lake. Green Lake Emergency Preparedness Committee seeks GMRS and ham radio operators

Are you a licensed GMRS or ham radio operator? The Green Lake Community Council’s Emergency Preparedness Committee would like to hear from you. In the event of an emergency or disaster, the committee is planning on setting up four emergency hubs.  These hubs will be places where Green Lake residents can get and share information, particularly if the power is out and phones are nonoperational.  GMRS and ham radio operators will be needed at the hubs to relay and receive information from other neighborhood hubs and the City of Seattle Emergency Operations Center.
