The Green Lake Forza Coffee Company (6900 E Green Lake Way N) is opening its doors to the public on Monday (Jan. 16, 2012) for five days of staff training and great deals while they get their feet wet. (Update, Jan. 13 – please note that hours and operations will be limited Jan. 16-20.)

The coffeeshop’s grand opening will be on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2011 at 8:14 a.m., in remembrance of the four Lakewood police officers who were shot and killed at a Parkland Forza at 8:14 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2009.

Murray Macdonald says the Forza menu will contain “small plates and appetizers, gourmet breakfast items and mostly locally-grown farm-to-table fare.”

In addition to coffee, there will be six craft beers on tap, assorted bottled beers and a wide wine selection, including four wines on tap.

Live music will be featured on Fridays and Saturdays.

Forza Green Lake will be open daily, 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. (6 a.m. – 11 p.m. during the summer).

The Green Lake Robeks is closing its doors on Monday (Dec. 5, 2011).

The smoothie shop, which opened in April, is located in the Circa Green Lake building (6900 E Green Lake Way N).

Co-owner Lori Nye says that the shop just wasn’t able to make it. The landlord served a three-day notice today.

“We’d like to thank everyone for letting us feed and nurture them,” Lori says, “and thanks for the new friends.”

There will also a children’s play area and a windowed garage door along a part of the west wall. The door will open onto outdoor seating along 4th Ave NE:

The Green Lake Forza will serve espresso drinks, coffee, tea, micro-brewery beers and wine, including wine on tap.

Franchise owner Debbie Macdonald, who has a background in wine, is planning on hosting wine tastings on the Circa’s roof deck.

Pastries and small plates of food, including some gluten-free and vegan offerings, will be available.

Dr. Troy Hull at the 2010 Halloween Candy Buy-Back event at Greenlake Kids Dentistry

Greenlake Kids Dentistry, located in the Circa Green Lake building on the NW corner of NE Ravenna Blvd and Woodlawn Ave NE, is hosting their annual Halloween Candy Buy-Back program on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, 3-6 p.m.

Last year, the dentist office collected 150 pounds of candy to benefit Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude includes donated candy in care packages that they assemble and send to service members overseas.

This year, Greenlake Kids Dentistry hopes to collect 300 pounds of candy. The office will be accepting candy donations for the entire week following Halloween.

Seattle-area kids aged 12-and-under will be rewarded $1 per pound of unopened candy that they donate (up to to 10 pounds per person). Letters to service members will also be collected at the event. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.

“To see the generosity from the kids in our community inspired us last year,” Dr. Troy Hull said in a press release. “It’s amazing to see families pull together and donate candy for a great cause. Kids were genuinely excited to part with their candy knowing it would bring a smile to a serviceperson’s face.”

Paving crews from the Seattle Department of Transportation will pave two blocks of Woodlawn Ave NE, between 4th Ave NE and NE Ravenna Blvd, tomorrow (Thursday, August 4, 2011) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Crews grinded off the old pavement last week.

One lane will remain open, shared by both directions of traffic with the assistance of traffic flaggers. The sidewalks will remain open for pedestrians.

From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Metro Route 26 will be rerouted off of Woodlawn Ave NE in this two block stretch. During this time, Route 26 heading toward downtown Seattle will travel instead via southbound NE Ravenna Blvd, westbound NE 65th St and then southbound on Latona Ave NE to its regular route. Heading toward east Green Lake, northbound Route 26 will not be affected.

Forza stores work to establish themselves as strong partners in the community, particularly the local firefighting and law enforcement community.

Murray Macdonald, who is a firefighter himself, says that new Forza stores traditionally open on their first day at 8:14 a.m., in remembrance of the four Lakewood police officers who were shot and killed at a Parkland Forza at 8:14 a.m. on November 29, 2009. The first cup of coffee served at each Forza location is given to a police or fire chief in the area, and a discount is offered to firefighters and police officers.

The Green Lake Forza will be open seven days a week. Exact hours are not set yet, but Debbie and Murray plan to stay open 15 or 16 hours a day. Customers will be encouraged to spend time in the coffee shop, getting to know their neighbors, using wifi, or listening to live music on weekend evenings.

Murray and Debbie hope to open the doors to the Green Lake Forza on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011.
