Parks Department offers free summer softball and tennis camps at Lower Woodland Park

Registration for Seattle Parks and Recreation’s summer youth sports camps begins today (Tuesday, April 5, 2011) at 12 p.m. Online registration is available via SPARC or at the city’s community centers, including the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N). Register now for 2011 Green Lake and Lower Woodland adult softball leagues and Green Lake Boot Camp

Registration is now open through Seattle Parks for this spring’s adult sports leagues and the Green Lake Boot Camp. Co-ed, men’s and women’s softball leagues will be playing at Lower Woodland Park and Green Lake Park. Softball leagues cost $700- $900 and run between May and July, 2011. Now is the time to get your team together and sign up for your first choice of game days, times and locations. Individuals who would like to be placed on a team can also register. Big rise in Parks Department field fees

Fees to use Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation fields dramatically increased on Jan. 1, 2011. “As a result of strained budgets,” Joelle Hammerstad, a Parks and Recreation Public Information Officer told me, ”[Seattle City] Council decided to take some additional steps on charging for the use of ballfields.” Fees for both adults and youth have gone up. Youth practice time, for example, used to be just $2.50/hour during the regularly established season. The cost is now $6/hour. Green Lake kids invited to tryout for Pony Olympic baseball team

Rich Selenis from the North Seattle Baseball Association (NSBA) asked us to get the word out to local kids and parents about upcoming tryouts for a competitive Pony Olympic team. The team will compete at the highest level with other teams in the region through play in Pony league games and summer tournaments.  Players are eligible if they are 13 years old (or younger) on April 30, 2011.
