			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://lifetimelearningseattle.org/">Lifetime Learning Center</a>&#8216;s Winter Quarter begins <strong>Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 </strong>and runs for eight weeks.</p>
<p>The Lifetime Learning Center is located in the John Marshall High School building (<a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=UTF-8&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;q=John+Marshall+High+School+seattle&amp;fb=1&amp;gl=us&amp;hq=John+Marshall+High+School&amp;hnear=Seattle,+WA&amp;cid=0,0,16500421935788346200&amp;ei=LA8PTIGINNORnwf_2IClDQ&amp;ved=0CBMQnwIwAA&amp;ll=47.678103,-122.322357&amp;spn=0.007339,0.01929&amp;z=16&amp;iwloc=A">520 NE Ravenna Blvd</a>). The center offers daytime college-level non-credit classes for adults of all ages. Classes are taught by a faculty of retired educators and volunteer instructors.</p>
<p>Class offerings include: Shakespeare&#8217;s Macbeth; Howard Hawks Film Review; Ancient Near East History; Mann&#8217;s The Magic Mountain; A Layman&#8217;s Introduction to Economics for Voters; and 20th Century History.</p>
<p>Tuition for an eight week course is typically $30. Weekly classes are offered Monday through Thursday.</p>
<p>There will be an open house on <strong>Thursday, Jan. 5</strong>, 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Attendees will be able to meet instructors, see the facility, and hear a presentation of the instructors&#8217; overviews of their upcoming classes.</p>

<p>The group will walk slowly and will practice being quiet so that they can hear the birds before the birds hear the group.</p>
<p>Participants should wear three or four layers, including a water-repellent or waterproof outer layer if there is rain in the forecast. Field guides, binoculars and scopes are also helpful.</p>

Special guests include refugee students from <a href="https://northseattle.edu/">North Seattle Community College</a> sharing their poems of identity on <strong>Sunday, November 6</strong>, and members of <a href="http://www.psks.org/">Peace on the Streets by Kids from the Streets</a> on<strong> Saturday, November 12</strong>.</p>
<p>On <strong>Saturday, November 5</strong>, there will be a post-play discussion with <a href="http://www.nhmin.org/">New Horizons Ministries</a>, a group leading the movement to break the cycle of youth homelessness.</p>
<p>In addition to the post-play discussions, the SPT board has sponsored an essay contest for all ages. More info is available at <a href="http://www.seattlepublictheater.org/" target="_blank">seattlepublictheater.org</a>.</p>
<p>The Seattle Public Theater youth ensemble will be holding a sock drive <strong>October 31-November 12</strong>. Socks may be dropped off during the show or anytime during normal box office hours.</p>
