Dori Gillam, a representative of Senior Services, a local non-profit agency serving older adults, spoke at last night’s Green Lake Community Council meeting. Gillam invited all baby boomers, as well as other “younger-thinking older adults” who live in Northwest Seattle, to Aging Your Way, an upcoming event at the Nordic Heritage Museum (3014 NW 67th St). “We would like to ask,” Gillam said, “what would your community have to look like in order to support you as your age?” Food and beverages will be served at the event, which will be Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Register at…

SHARE homeless shelters have a controversial history in Ballard
Yesterday, we reported that there will be a community meeting tonight (Wednesday, July 14, 2010) at 7 p.m. concerning a planned homeless shelter at Green Lake’s Bethany Lutheran Church. The shelter will house twenty homeless men who are participants in SHARE (Seattle Housing and Resource Effort). The church and SHARE will be working together for a one-month trial period beginning tomorrow (Thursday). Today, we learned that a similar SHARE shelter was located at a Ballard church last year. The shelter was eventually shut down due to SHARE’s highly controversial screening procedures. Our news partner My Ballard closely followed the story as…
Crows dive-bomb baby ducks (and people!) in Green Lake
My Green Lake reader Karen asks: Have you seen any ducklings recently at Green Lake? Recently crows have been stalking the baby ducks and picking them off one by one! And, this report from Kim: I came home today (59th and Corliss) after being away for two days and got dive-bombed multiple times by crows. When I ran back to my car, my boyfriend noticed they were swooping the car. I drove off and didnt come back until dark. I guess there is a nest in front of my house. So scary! Just wondering if anyone else has reported this…
Green Lake Ben & Jerry's robber, dubbed the "Count to 100 Bandit," may have hit two other businesses

A commenter on the seattlepi.com story has suggested the man be called the “Count to 100 Bandit,” a handle which has also been picked up by My Ballard. More details from Casey McNerthney and our news partners at seattlepi.com: The first case happened at the 7-Eleven in the 3900 block of…
