We have added a second Youth with Parent (family) Holiday Pottery Class in December. This is a two session class that is designed for kids aged 7-12 to make a holiday family piece to share during the holidays and will include a firing and a glazing. The added class is a Friday with two classes December 2 and December 9, 5-630pm, $30 per child.

We have added another Pee Wee Sports class for 3-7 yr olds. The class is taught by our awesome pee wee instructor Liz Isaacson, who has been running youth programs at Green Lake CC and other rec centers for over 5 years. She is offering an introductory sports class, which will include track, noodle hockey, soccer, t-ball and more, with two sports per session, 4 week class $40, 1115-noon starts Monday November 21st.

Silhouette artist Karl Johnson will be creating hand-cut original silhouettes at Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) on Sunday, November 13, 2011, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

An original silhouette will be $25. Duplicates and frames will be available.

Karl is a third generation silhouette artist. According to a flier for the event, his work has appeared in over 30 national publications including “The O List” in O Magazine, People, In Style, Martha Stewart Wedding, Parents, Elegant Bride, Nickelodeon, People, Country Home, Country Living and many others. He has created silhouettes for thousands of people, including celebrities and their children. His silhouettes were also featured in the movie “Black Swan.”

Each silhouette takes only a few minutes, and “squirmy children of all ages are welcome.”

The Green Lake Community Center and Evans Pool

Registration for fall 2011 classes and programs at Seattle’s community centers and indoor pools is now open.

You can browse offerings and register online using SPARC: Seattle Parks and Recreation Connection.

Fall classes and programs at the Green Lake Community Center and Evans Pool (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) are listed in Seattle Parks and Recreation’s North East brochure. Currently, the brochure is only available online [PDF]. Due to a publication delay, the hard copy will not be out until later this week.

There are several new classes and programs at the Green Lake Community Center, including:

Parents’ Night Off
Ages 4 – 10
A glass of adult beverage, a romantic dinner, a chance to do holiday shopping or simply work on getting everything organized. Your Night Off is our night on, to give you time to do what you have been wanting or needing to do! You child will do crafts, sports and games, and much more. As of 9:30 this morning (Saturday, June 12, 2010), 39 fiber artists have RSVP’d to the event, which begins at 11 a.m. at the Green Lake Wading Pool and runs until 4 p.m.

It’ll be a Fiber Arts Fiesta for all fiber crafts and anyone interested in learning about them. Knitters, Crocheters, Spinners, Dyers, Embroiderers, Quilters, and everyone who gets off on fondling fiber are invited to join in the party! [...]

We hope to have short demos on spinning, crochet, knitting, spindles, juggling and other crafts.

Spindle, an indie arts and crafts store, will be opening soon at 7305 Linden Ave N, in the Linden Corners space once occupied by Flock.

Noriko, the shop’s owner, writes:

I will be carrying paintings from local artists, prints, cards, handmade “creatures,” handmade jewelry, handmade baby clothes and other handmade stuff.

I also have the adjacent space in the back to use as a gallery to showcase local artists’ artwork. I’m always looking for new artists, so if anyone is interested they are welcome to contact me at: info [at] spindleshop.com.

In addition, I’m partnering with a non-profit organization called “Build a Nest” – they loan money to women in developing countries and the women repay the loan by creating handmade items (anything from jewelry to scarves, laptop bags, stuffed animals… you name it). I will be carrying some of the items made by these women. By purchasing these items, people can support the women better their lives.

I think the store will be a great addition to the neighborhood – although tiny – I hope people will find something unique and something that will inspire them.

Spindle’s soft opening will be on Friday, April 9, 2010, during the Art Up Greenwood-Phinney Monthly Artwalk, which runs 6 – 9 p.m.  Noriko is planning for a grand opening within a week or so after that.  Store hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, 12 – 6 p.m.

Nature Printmaking workshop at the Green Lake Branch [7364 E. Green Lake Dr N]

Nature Consortium will conduct a workshop on Nature Printmaking for ages 7 to adult. Learn how to create unique and colorful nature-themed block prints on tree-free paper with the Nature Consortium.

The Kooterville Bizarre Bazaar: Unique Gifts for Unique People
Saturday December 5th from 11am-3pm, on the second floor of the Greenlake Community Center at 7201 E Green Lake Drive N.

Avoid the mall! Do your holiday shopping by the sunny shores of Greenlake!  Come to the Bizarre Bazaar, presenting handcrafted jewelry, knits, soaps, art, clothes, foods and uniquely bizarre wares for your holiday shopping pleasure.

We have jewelry made out of hardware, holiday gift boxes made out of Chinese food containers, stuffed voodoo dolls, and organic raw chocolate bon bons.

The Bizarre Bazaar is sponsored by the Ladies of Kooterville, an arts collective of former and current theater actresses who love to perform, produce AND craft!  Many of the Kooterville ladies are craft vendors this year, and others are helping produce the event. We did it last year in the same location, and this year it’s growing like gangbusters!

Come early and bring cash.

Admission is free!

Sounds pretty awesome.
