Sarvey Wildlife Center reports on the rescue of a Green Lake goose

In July, we shared the story of a Great Blue Heron who was injured after becoming tangled in fishing line in Green Lake. Unfortunately, although that bird was rescued by Sarvey Wildlife Center, its legs were so severely damaged that it had to be euthanized. Happily, the Sarvey Wildlife Center rescues other birds from Green Lake that do reach full recovery. 2011 Walk for the Animals at Green Lake Park

The annual Walk for the Animals, a benefit for Pigs Peace Sanctuary, will be Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at Green Lake Park. Check-in begins at 10:15 a.m. at the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) and the walk starts at 11 a.m. Registration is $20. 2011 Walk for Farm Animals at Green Lake Park

Updated Saturday, October 15, 2011. Farm Sanctuary’s Walk for Farm Animals is being held at Green Lake Park on Sunday, October 23, 2011, 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The walk around the lake begins near the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N). According to walk coordinator Kristin Lockwood, the event “celebrates and promotes compassion for farm animals and raises vital funds for Farm Sanctuary’s lifesaving rescue, education and advocacy work.” In addition to the walk, the event includes food, a raffle, face painting, and temporary tattoos for kids. Singer Songwriter Aaron English will perform. Green Lake Library offers free workshops on city chickens, non-toxic cleaners and mushroom hunting

The workshops are free and open to the public. Seating may be limited based on room capacity.
