Marshall and Lily, two neighborhood puggles, are in need of a new home.

Andrea Karim shared the following information:

They belonged to a couple, but the wife passed away and the husband doesn’t feel like he can care for them anymore. They are SO SWEET.

They aren’t trained (in the sense that they don’t seem to understand commands) but they are sweet, love kids, and gaze at you with some seriously pretty puppy eyes.

The new Seattle Greyhound Group is meeting on Saturday morning (Saturday, Jan 14 2012) at 11 a.m. for a walk around Green Lake.

The pack of greyhounds and their owners will be meeting at the southwest corner of Green Lake, by the trees near the Aqua Theater.

From the group’s meetup page:

Have a retired, rescued Ex-Racer, or have 2, 3 or 4? Come and meet others with lovely 4 legged couch potatoes. We will meet up regularly for walks in the park, have fun raisers, picnics, barbecues, and outings to local greyhound friendly locations. Group benefits of sharing dog sitting and letting your hounds meet other packs.

Due to the nature of greyhounds, this group is intended just for greyhounds and Lurchers.

I live on the North/West end of Lower Woodland, about 1 block from Kid Valley. My kitty Lucy, a grey and black adult tabby female is missing. I am thinking she may have been chased (by another animal, cat or raccoon) across 50th and into the park towards the lake.

She has tags with her name, my name and our phone #. I can be contacted at michellebyrd@earthlink.net or 206-913-3486.

A note from Gracie’s family:

Our beloved cat Gracie has been missing for four days now. She is an indoor/outdoor cat, and we’re afraid someone may have mistaken her for a stray. We have bought her several collars in the past that have the safety release, so she’s always losing them when she’s out and about.

She came home very late Saturday night with a plain brown collar on that someone else must have attached. Sunday she got outside again and didn’t come home at all that night.

We did spot her once on 62nd street on Tuesday around noon, but she ran away before we were unable to reach her.  So she’s alive and in the neighborhood, but must be getting food and/or shelter from somewhere else.

She is a very people-friendly gray cat with green eyes. She has all of her claws and does have a microchip.

We live on 62nd between Latona and 1st. If you’ve seen Gracie or know of anyone who adopted a “stray” cat recently, please let us know. We miss her!

Officials at the Woodland Park Zoo were investigating Tuesday how a lion managed to escape its den just minutes before the zoo closed.

The zoo’s emergency response team kept the female African lion contained in the feline house after it walked away from its sleeping den and wandered into a service hallway about 3:55 p.m., according to a news release.

“The lion was contained inside the building and at no time were visitors or the staff in any danger,” zoo officials said in the news release.

The 12-year-old lion was safely tranquilized and secured about 4:53 p.m. in the service area, according to the news release.

The zoo also has a 12-year-old male and 2-year-old female lions. The other lions were secured in their dens during the incident.

Update, Tuesday, November 8: Both bird walks are now full and reservations are no longer being taken.

 

 

The Friends of Green Lake is offering two Green Lake bird walks with Audubon Society Master Birder Martin Muller this fall.

The walks will be on Saturday, November 12, 2011 and Saturday, November 19, 2011, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

The four-hour tours of Green Lake Park will cover migrants as well as local birds, including waterfowl and shorebirds. Beginners and advanced birders of all ages are welcome. Dogs, however, should stay home.

The group will walk slowly and will practice being quiet so that they can hear the birds before the birds hear the group.

Participants should wear three or four layers, including a water-repellent or waterproof outer layer if there is rain in the forecast. Field guides, binoculars and scopes are also helpful.
