On Tuesdays, we publish a vintage postcard from Green Lake’s past. These postcards were generously shared with us by Green Lake residents Mark and Mary Griffin. (You can find previously-published postcards here, here, and here – sorry we missed last Tuesday!) This week’s card is an aerial view of Green Lake. It was mailed in Bellingham on July 5, 1949. The northwest part of the lake and park can be seen, including the Green Lake Bathhouse (now home to The Seattle Public Theater) and west Green Lake beach. Green Lake home on market for first time since 1940
A historic house at corner of Woodlawn Ave N and Kenwood Pl N is on the market for the first time in 70 years. The seller, who is 94, lived in the home with her sister, who passed away several years ago at the age of 102. The younger sister is now living elsewhere and is in good health. The seller’s agent, Nancy Carroll, calls the house “a classic, untouched Seattle Box, ready for updates.” A slide show of the home is available here, and listing info can be found here. The house sold for $12,000 in 1940 and is now listed…

Kelly Stergo of KSR Roofing told me that the project will “beautify the building inside and out.” In addition to the roofing work, the interior and exterior will be painted. The building will be also be losing its signature tower, a remnant from when it…

The fireworks, which began at the north shore of Green Lake and then moved to Duck Island, were traditionally preceded by naturalization ceremonies at Woodland Park or the Green Lake Aqua Theater. A 1952 Seattle Times article about the show quoted Col. Ralph H. Hall of the American Legion:…
