An Earth Day celebration and fundraiser will be held tomorrow (Sunday, April 22, 2012), 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., at the stump of a Big Leaf Maple tree that was cut down following a winter storm. The stump, which has been decorated with flowers several times in recent months, is on the Green Lake path, roughly 1/4 mile north of the Aqua Theater (5900 West Green Lake Way N). Tomorrow’s event will raise money for a new park bench dedicated to — and in part built from — the fallen Big Leaf Maple. SMASH is a stage adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s comic novel, An Unsocial Socialist. SMASH has all of Shaw’s humor, wit and satire, with all the energy and pace of a modern comedy. In this hilarious show, a young man faces a dreadful moral dilemma. Newly wedded and filthy rich, he’s got everything life could possibly offer. So what’s his problem? He’s a socialist. “GiveBIG” to nonprofit organizations on May 2
A Seattle Foundation program called “GiveBIG” is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, 2012. GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event “to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a healthier and more vital place to live.” Each donation made to the more than 1,200 nonprofit organizations between midnight and midnight on May 2 will receive a pro-rated portion of the matching funds (or “stretch”) pool.
