Crews working on the Seattle Department of Transportation’s (SDOT) project to repave NE Ravenna Blvd between Green Lake and 15th Ave NE have completed grinding the existing pavement on the westbound side of the street between NE 71st St and 8th Ave NE.

The crews will switch to the opposite side of Ravenna tomorrow (Friday, April 6, 2012), grinding the existing pavement on the eastbound side of the street.

According to SDOT, crews are scheduled to grind the existing pavement on the eastbound side tomorrow and Monday (April 6 and 9), and will then begin roadway base repairs and repaving work. Drivers and residents should expect closures of NE Ravenna Blvd between NE 71st and NE 65th streets on weekdays through April, from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Access to residences and businesses along this stretch of roadway will be maintained. A signed detour will direct drivers and bicyclists around the closure.

NE Ravenna Blvd from NE 65th St to 8th Ave NE will remain open to traffic during this period, although it will be subject to some nighttime closures later in the project. SDOT will provide advance notification of these closures.

Work in the coming days includes grinding and removing the existing asphalt roadway, repairing areas of the concrete roadway base, repaving the street, upgrading pedestrian curb ramps, and building a curb bulb at E Green Lake Dr N and NE 71st St. Work is expected to be completed by the end of summer, dependent on weather conditions.

To minimize construction impacts, work has been divided into two phases. Phase one is on NE Ravenna Blvd between Green Lake and I-5 (from E Green Lake Dr N to 8th Ave NE). (Crews began work on the westbound side of Ravenna in late March.) Phase two will run on NE Ravenna Blvd from I-5 to 15th Ave NE (from 8th Ave NE to 15th Ave NE). Crews will similarly begin work on the westbound side of the street and then move to the eastbound side of the street.
