The following information has been added to the seattlepi.com story that we shared earlier today:
According to a short statement from investigators, [the shooting victim, Precious Reed Jr.] was attempting to buy several pounds of marijuana from his killer.
Police contend the man admitted to meeting Reed at the park to conduct the drug deal. According to police statements, the man said he had planned to sell Reed the marijuana but shot him after a struggle.
Investigators claim the man’s phone records and an eye witness account also implicate the man in Reed’s slaying.

Just to be clear, what actually happened that day will have to be determined as best as possible in a court of law. The victim - if he was still alive - might well present a different view of events.
Thanks, seattler0cks. That’s a very good point. I’ve updated the post above with “Police say”

I honestly think there is more to this story. The guy that shot him is the one that offered the drug story. Having met Precious and his family, I don’t believe it. I understand that he had quite a past, but I also believe that he had turned his life completely around. The murderer was not someone random… they had known each other from childhood. I appreciate your fairness seattler0cks!
but what does it benefit the suspect to admit to selling a couple pounds of marijuana and make his own case worse?? Wouldn’t get more time for intent to distribute? That doesn’t quite add up.
Well when he’s fighting a murder charge, I don’t think it hurts him to make it appear something that it may not be and claim self defense.
