‘Raft’ of coots spotted at Green Lake

What do you think? (2 Comments) February 2, 2012 at 1:43PM

Many thanks to Steve Boyd of MacDonald Boyd and Associates (6424 E Green Lake Way N) for sharing these photos, which he shot with his iPhone yesterday (Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012) around noon:

Steve writes:

Here are two pictures of a gaggle (actually called ‘rafts’) of coots on the lake….actually, I’m not sure what exactly their doing. Maybe having some kind of clan gathering or “rafting” experience on the lake.

Perhaps you can ask your esteemed and wise readers…. “Who can help explain this curious coot behavior?”

Any birders out there? Please share your coot knowledge in the comments below – thank you!
