A Seattle Housing and Resource Effort (SHARE) shelter at Bethany Lutheran Church (7400 Woodlawn Ave NE) has reopened, according to an email sent to the SHARE email distribution list last night (Friday, October 21, 2011). Citing insufficient funds, SHARE closed all 15 of its neighborhood indoor shelters on Monday, October 10. “We are reopening because the $44,000 that the National FEMA [Federal Emergency Management Agency] Board had cut from our yearly budget was restored,” the email sent by SHARE last night explained. “We are reopening because the SHARE Shelter Board had a fabulously successful Auction last Sunday night, that resulted in a $25,000 check delivered yesterday to SHARE. State Senator Scott White dies
Democratic State Senator Scott White died earlier today (Friday, October 21, 2011). He was 41 years old. White represented Washington State’s 46th District. The district covers much of north Seattle, including north Green Lake. [pdf map] According to an AP story posted on seattlepi.com, authorities say there is no evidence of foul play in Sen. Resident rallies neighbors to bring a credit union ATM to east Green Lake
In August 2010, the BECU ATM located next to the Green Lake Peet’s Coffee and Tea (6850 E Green Lake Way N) was removed. A new ATM, operated by Chase Bank, was later installed in its place. Thanks to the the CO-OP ATM Network, Green Lake residents who use credit unions have access to several other surcharge-free ATMs, including nearby ATMs in the west Green Lake 7-Eleven (7314 Aurora Ave N), the Wallingford 7-Eleven (101 NE 50th) and the Roosevelt Safeway (7300 Roosevelt Way NE). However, the loss of the Green Lake BECU ATM was frustrating for many in the east Green Lake area who relied on its convenient location….
