KOMO to broadcast live from Green Lake tonight

KOMO 4 will broadcast live from the Green Lake community this evening (Monday, October 31, 2011). Segments from Green Lake will air on the 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts. KOMO photographer Neil Ikeda says that the segments, which will be about trick-or-treating, will use the Green Lake Irwin’s Neighborhood Bakery and Cafe (301 NE 65th St) as a backdrop. Irwin’s is hosting a costume contest 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Proposed redistricting would put Green Lake in King County District 4

Every 10 years, King County Council Districts are realigned to reflect population changes. This process, called “redistricting,” is currently underway. Last Thursday (October 27, 2011), the King County Districting Committee released a Districting Master’s Plan. The plan proposes a major change in districting for the Green Lake neighborhood. Under the proposed redistricting, the boundary between District 4 and District 2 would shift from Aurora Ave N to I-5. The boundary change would mean that east and south Green Lake would no longer be in District 2 (currently served by Councilmember Larry Gossett), and north Green Lake would no longer be…

Tree ID sign, missing since March, reappears at Green Lake Park

Last spring, a local group of plant enthusiasts hung hand-made “ID bracelets” on 128 trees around the walking path at Green Lake Park. The “I Heart Trees!” project was meant to inspire and encourage visitors to the park to learn about the world around them. The signs, which were approved by Seattle Parks and Recreation, were met with acclaim from both park visitors and Green Lake residents.   Just two days after a group of volunteers hung the signs, more than 100 of the 128 signs went missing. Memorial service for Sen. White scheduled for November 6

A public memorial service for Democratic State Senator Scott White has been scheduled for Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 1 p.m. Sen. White represented Washington State’s 46th District. The district covers much of north Seattle, including north Green Lake. The service will be in the Meany Hall Theater on the University of Washington Campus. Free parking will be available in the Central Plaza Underground Garage. The garage is located beneath Meany Hall and can be entered is at the intersection of 15th Ave NE and NE 41st St. Attendees are urged to carpool. Sen.
