Scenes from the 2011 Luminata lantern parade at Green Lake Park
Green Lake was lit up last night (Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011). Several hundred people participated in the Fremont Arts Council‘s 11th annual Luminata. The lantern parade celebrated the Autumnal Equinox. Many thanks to photographer Joe Mabel for sharing his photos of the event with us.

New cake shop and cafe ‘Cake Envy’ to open on Monday
Cake Envy is opening its doors on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011. A grand opening party will follow on Saturday, Oct. 1, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. The new cake shop and cafe is located in Lakeside Plaza (7900 East Green Lake Dr N), across the street from the Green Lake wading pool. The spot was previously occupied by Souped Up Cafe. In addition to cakes and cupcakes, Cake Envy will serve Caffe Umbria and tea. A liquor license is pending for beer, wine and champagne. Free wifi and plenty of seating will be available, including one long table for large groups. Opening hours will be Mondays-Thursdays…

New overhead crosswalk sign and repaired sidewalk at Green Lake Elementary School
Updated Friday, Sept. 23. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) reports that they have completed a Safe Routes to School project at Green Lake Elementary School (2400 N 65th St). In an effort to make walking and biking to and from the school safer and more accessible, SDOT installed an illuminated overhead crosswalk sign and repaired a sidewalk. The crosswalk light has yet to be turned on, but will be soon. According to SDOT, the light still needs to be connected to the electrical grid by Seattle City Light.
