Free training on how to influence laws in Seattle and Washington State

A free hour-long civic skills training will be held at the  the Green Lake Branch Library (7364 E Green Lake Dr N) on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. The training is offered by the Seattle Free School and Knowledge As Power. Knowledge As Power is a nonpartisan nonprofit focused on helping citizens engage more effectively in the lawmaking process. Green Lake Chamber of Commerce meets tonight

The Green Lake Chamber of Commerce meets tonight (Monday, Sept. 26, 2011), 7 p.m. – 8:45 p.m., in the Board Room at The Hearthstone (6720 E Green Lake Way N). The agenda includes open networking and a discussion about a neighborhood contest. The Green Lake Chamber of Commerce is “a friendly neighborhood network of Green Lake businesses focused on success, community involvement and mutual support.” It is open to anyone who wants to do business in Green Lake. Friends of Green Lake to meet on Tuesday

photo credit: Allison Harger The Friends of Green Lake meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at The Hearthstone (6720 E Green Lake Way N). All are welcome to join the meeting. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. for socializing. Friends of Green Lake volunteers monitored the Lake for temperature, water clarity, nutrients and algae through the summer.  At Tuesday’s meeting, our new Lake monitors will make brief reports and we’ll have graphs summarizing this summer’s data.  We’ll show the new microcystin test kit, which allows us to measure one of the toxins produced by cyanobacteria. Reports of a cell phone robbery, home burglaries and tire slashings in Green Lake last night

We received tips today about three different incidents that took place last night (Friday, Sept. 23, 2011) in the Green Lake neighborhood. Lisa wrote to say that she was eating dinner at the Greenlake Bar & Grill (7200 E Green Lake Drive N) when she witnessed a man steal a cell phone. Lisa saw the man, who was wearing a hoodie that was covering his hair and some of his face, pacing in front of the restaurant’s sidewalk seating before he snatched a woman’s phone off of her table and ran down the street, leaving the woman screaming.
