The Toddler Play Center at the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) is temporarily cosed today (Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011) due to some minor flooding in the room. In July, we shared the story of a Great Blue Heron who was injured after becoming tangled in fishing line in Green Lake. Unfortunately, although that bird was rescued by Sarvey Wildlife Center, its legs were so severely damaged that it had to be euthanized. Happily, the Sarvey Wildlife Center rescues other birds from Green Lake that do reach full recovery. The 2011 Green Lake Gobble & Mashed Potato Munch Off
The Green Lake Gobble & Mashed Potato Munch Off is returning to Green Lake Park on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011. More than 1,800 people are expected to attend. The event begins at 9:10 a.m. with a free Kids Dash, followed by a 5K run/walk at 9:30 a.m. The race course can be viewed here. Runners will have the opportunity to “Burn the Turkeys” by racing against one male and one female running the event in turkey costumes.
