All tennis courts at Lower Woodland Park will be unavailable this Thursday evening due to youth tennis jamboree

Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Quickstart tennis league for youth is holding a jamboree at the Lower Woodland Park tennis courts this Thursday (August 18, 2011), 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. All ten tennis courts will be in use by Quickstart program participants during the jamboree. No courts will be available for public use. Everyone is welcome to watch the jamboree, which will will include fun, lightly-competitive matches between up to 100 kids aged 7 to 10. Lead teacher at Green Lake Community Center Preschool transferring to Jefferson Community Center

Maria Yamaguchi, lead teacher of the Green Lake Community Center‘s “Preschool Frogs” program (7201 E Green Lake Dr N), will not be returning to the program in the fall. Maria has held the position since Eleanor Reynolds retired last year. “This was an extremely hard decision for me to make,” Maria, who has accepted a Childcare Director position at the Jefferson Community Center (3801 Beacon Ave S), wrote in a letter to preschool parents. “I love teaching preschool and interacting with you and your children at Green Lake.” The Green Lake Community Center’s preschool program is offered on a monthly basis to children aged 3-5 throughout the…

Car crashes into gas pump at 76 Gas Station

Earlier this evening (Monday, August 15, 2011), a car crashed into a gas pump at the 76 Gas Station at  84th and Aurora (8408 Aurora Ave N). According to 911 logs, one fire engine was dispatched to the gas station at 5:23 p.m. Mitch Spute was at the gas station following the crash. “Somehow the driver, headed west on N 85th St, crossed the east lanes,” Mitch says. “He went through bushes and landed there. 2011 Athleta Iron Girl 10K and 5K Run and Walk

The 2011 Athleta Iron Girl Women’s 10K/ 5K Run and Walk is coming to Green Lake Park on Sunday, September 11, 2011.  The race will start at 8 a.m. near the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N). Event organizers expect approximately 2,500 participants. “The Iron Girl event experience provides women with the perfect platform for first timers and experienced athletes to reach their personal bests,” reads the Athleta Iron Girl Seattle Facebook event page.
