SDOT crews begin work on Wallingford Ave N today, expect street to re-open Sept. 2

Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) crews are replacing concrete panels on Wallingford Ave N, in north Green Lake. Work began today (Tuesday, August 23, 2011) and will be completed in two stages. The final stage has an expected completion date of Friday, September 2. Work is currently being done on the block of Wallingford Ave N between N 82nd St and N 85th St. The street is closed, and Seattle Police officers are directing traffic around the closed street. Work is expected to continue on this block through Friday, August 26. Seattle Police respond to “person with gun” dispatch at Green Lake Park

Seattle Police responded to Green Lake Park yesterday morning (Sunday, August 21, 2011) following a “person with a gun” dispatch to West Green Lake Way N at N 63rd St. The incident is being discussed on OpenCarry.org, a ”pro-gun Internet community focused on the right to openly carry properly holstered handguns in daily American life.” OpenCarry.org forum user “jsanchez” started a thread yesterday titled “Taken down at gun point at Greenlake today.” Jsanchez says that, following a walk around the lake, he was waiting for his wife at Green Lake Park. Dedications and remembrances found on Green Lake Park’s benches

Bronze plaques are installed at the foot of many of the benches at Green Lake Park. Park bench dedications are managed by the Seattle Parks Foundation. More information about the Bench Donation Program is available here.
