Woman assaulted at Green Lake Park last Wednesday afternoon

According to a Seattle Police Department report, a woman was assaulted in Green Lake Park last Wednesday (July 6, 2011). A woman told Officer Owen Storm that she was swimming with friends at Green Lake’s West Beach on Wednesday afternoon at around 3 p.m. The woman got out of the water and was walking in the park when she was confronted by a male suspect, whom she described as ”dirty with sores on his arms.” The woman told Officer Storm that the suspect grabbed her by the neck and “squeezed [her] until she felt dizzy.” The suspect held on for several seconds,…

City Councilmember Harrell and School Board Member Carr to speak at Wednesday’s Green Lake Community Council meeting

All are welcome at the next Green Lake Community Council meeting. The meeting will be this Wednesday (July 13, 2011), 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at The Hearthstone (6720 East Green Lake Way N). Seattle City Councilmember Bruce Harrell and Seattle School Board Member Sherry Carr are scheduled to speak at the meeting. The meeting will also include a presentation about proposed changes to building guidelines within one mile of Sound Transit’s planned Roosevelt Station. Roosevelt Station will be located underground just west of 12th Ave NE, across from Roosevelt High School, with entrances at NE 65th and NE 67th streets. Friday night SKWIM games scheduled at Evans Pool

Green Lake’s Evans Pool (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) will be hosting SKWIM games on three upcoming Friday nights. All are welcome to join drop-in SKWIM games on Friday July 22, Friday August 12, and Friday August 26, 2011, 6:45 – 7:45 p.m. The cost is $4.75 for adults and $3.25 for youth and seniors. Play is limited to the first 24 players. SKWIM is a new water sport that combines elements from water polo and Ultimate Frisbee. Katy Webber to lead musical story time at Green Lake’s Mockingbird Books

Katy Webber will be leading the 11 a.m. story time this Saturday (July 16, 2011) at Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE). The event is free. Katy teaches Katy’s Musikal Magik, a popular early-childhood music program, at local community centers, including the Green Lake Community Center. “She’s delights audiences wherever she goes with her songs and movement and we are thrilled to have her back in the store once again,” Linda Spoor at Mockingbird Books says. Mary Cooper and Susanna Stodden memorial walk at Green Lake Park

Five years ago, Mary Cooper and Susanna Stodden were killed while hiking on the Pinnacle Lake Trail on Mount Pilchuck. The case is still open. There will be a memorial walk around Green Lake tomorrow night (Monday, July 11, 2011). The public is invited to join family and friends for the walk, which is an annual event. The walk begins at 8 p.m. at the Green Lake Community Center (7201 East Green Lake Dr N).
