Green Lake business history: Collected Works bookstore, the Feel-Good Space and Abintra Wellness Center
The Greenlake Bar & Grill has been a staple of the neighborhood’s restaurant scene since first opening its doors in 2000, more than ten years ago. Longtime Green Lake residents will remember several other businesses that have also operated out of the brick building at 7200 E Green Lake Drive N. We’ve written about eateries that have occupied the space through the years, including the Lemon Grass Bar and Grill, Bruegger’s Fresh Bagel Bakery, Zi Pani Cafe, and two different restaurants that were named “Green Lake Grill.” In the 1970s, the building also housed a bookstore and a massage center. Donate new books to children in need at Mockingbird Books
Green Lake’s Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) is hosting a book drive from Saturday, July 16 to Sunday, July 31, 2011. The event is a part of the Books for Kids Book Drive, a state-wide program sponsored by Page Ahead Children’s Literacy Program and Northwest Book Lovers. During the Books for Kids Book Drive, 26 independent book stores across Washington State will offer their customers the opportunity to purchase a new children’s book to donate to a child in need. Used bicycle drive at the Greenlake PCC
Alaffia Sustainable Skin Care is holding a “Bicycles for Education” bike drive at the Greenlake PCC (7504 Aurora Ave N) on Saturday, August 20, 2011, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. According to a news release from PCC, used bicycles that are collected at the event will be distributed to disadvantaged teens in Togo, a small country in West Africa. The bicycles will be used by the recipients for transportation to and from school. “Alaffia founder, president and Togo native, Olowo-n’djo Tchala, knows first-hand the challenges of overcoming poverty and the impact a simple bicycle can have on a child’s life,” the press release reads.
