Upcoming “84th St Block Party” celebrates the grand opening of Aurora Ave’s new Boardroom Cafe, The Guitar Store and Motion Boardshop

Aurora Ave’s new Boardroom Cafe will be officially opening its doors on Saturday, August 6, 2011, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. The coffee shop will celebrate along with neighboring new businesses Motion Boardshop and The Guitar Store at the 84th St Grand Opening Block Party. The three businesses are all located on the 8300 block of Aurora Ave N. The party on August 6 will feature free string changes, skateboard bearing packing, door prizes, a BBQ and special deals. Parks Department offers a three-day Olmsted park-to-park walk to adults aged 50 and older

In 1903, the City of Seattle hired the Olmsted Brothers landscape architecture firm to plan the city’s overall parks system and to create plans for the University of Washington campus as well as 20 city parks, including Green Lake Park and Woodland Park. This August, Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Lifelong Recreation Sound Steps Walking Program is hosting a three-day Olmsted park-to-park walk. The walk is Thursday, August 4 through Saturday, August 6, 2011. It will highlight the historic Olmsted park plan and improvements that have been made possible by the voter-approved 2000 Pro Parks Levy and the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy. Trattoria Cioppino debuts new menu

Trattoria Cioppino, Green Lake’s new Italian restaurant, has recently updated their menu. The north Green Lake restaurant opened for business on May 31, 2011 in Lakeside Plaza (7900 East Green Lake Dr N), across the street from the Green Lake wading pool. Chef and co-owner Riccardo Simeone says that he perfected his timing and recipes over the month of June and debuted the new menu during the first week of July. Storytime at Mockingbird Books will teach kids Hebrew through ASL

Storyteller and musician Betsy Dischel will be presenting a special storytime at Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) on Friday (July 22, 2011), 11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. The free event will use music and storytelling to teach children Hebrew through American Sign Language. The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is bringing the event to Mockingbird Books as a part of The PJ Library program. The PJ Library sends free books every month to Jewish kids aged 0-5 ½ years. Suspicious door-to-door book salesman featured on Q13

Last night (Monday, July 18, 2011), Q13 FOX aired a story about Jeff Hsieh, a door-to-door book salesman that has been making the rounds in north Seattle. The aggressive sales tactics used by Hsieh and his partner recently spooked several Green Lake residents. In June, when Hsieh was going door to door in Green Lake, we contacted his employer.
