This weekend in Green Lake: Battle at the Lake, Shakespeare in the Park, the Milk Carton Derby and more

The eighth annual Battle at the Lake is this weekend (July 15-17, 2011) at the Green Lake Community Center. The five-on-five outdoor basketball tournament traditionally features Seattle’s finest basketball players [more info].

This weekend also brings free performances of Antony and Cleopatra and The Tempest to Lower Woodland Park [more info] and a free Youth Ensemble production of The Princess Bride to the Seattle Public Theater at the Green Lake Bathhouse [more info].

The Green Lake Milk Carton Derby, a Seafair tradition since 1972, is Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. [more info].  SDOT advises that West Green Lake Way N and Green Lake Way N will be closed “when traffic becomes too congested.”

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn will be holding a “mini town hall” on Saturday, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at The Hearthstone [more info].

Seattle Parks and Recreation will sell low-cost life jackets and helmets at Evans Pool, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday  [more info].

Also on Saturday, Katy Webber of Katy’s Musikal Magik will be leading the 11 a.m. story time at Mockingbird Books [more info].
