Children’s author Stephanie Barden to visit Mockingbird Books

Local author Stephanie Barden will be at Mockingbird Books (7220 Woodlawn Ave NE) on Saturday (June 25, 2011) at 1 p.m. “Stephanie’s debut early chapter book Cinderella Smith is a delightful story about Josephine-Kathryn Smith who is always losing a shoe, hence her nickname Cinderella,” Linda Spoor of Mockingbird Books says. “Throw in a dance recital, a Prince – Charlie her neighbor, a friend who is about to get two stepsisters, and you have a wonderful read aloud or alone book whose heroine is spunky and dealing with real life issues. SKWIM, a new water sport, is now offered at Evans Pool

Green Lake’s Evans Pool (7201 E Green Lake Dr N) has introduced a new offering. SKWIMis a new water sport that combines elements from water polo and Ultimate Frisbee. Players wear fins designed specifically for game play and throw a soft and flexible disk. Fins and other equipment are provided by the pool for use at the facility. Evans Pool is the first pool in the City of Seattle Aquatics program to introduce SKWIM. “The possibilities for intergenerational programming and leagues is huge,” Donna Sammons, Evans Pool Aquatic Center Coordinator says. ”We are already thinking of possible ways to incorporate it into our programming.” SKWIM…

Lost cat: Have you seen Lucky? UPDATE — Lucky has been found!

Update, Sunday 2:30 p.m. – Lucky has been be found. His owners say he is hungry but fine.   A black and gray tabby cat has gone missing from the west Green Lake / east Phinney Ridge area. Lucky was last seen on Thursday (June 16, 2011). His owners describe him as long, slim and agile. Fireworks cause loud bangs in Green Lake neighborhood

Just after 10 p.m. tonight (Friday, June 17, 2011) five loud bangs could be heard in the Green Lake neighborhood. We have received confirmation from several people who saw fireworks going off in the southeast area of Green Lake. Bay Anapol, who saw the fireworks out the window of her east Green Lake home, says that they looked to originate in the Woodland Park area, and Keith Logan, who is also in east Green Lake, said that they looked to be launched from Green Lake Park, just south of the Community Center. This weekend in Green Lake
