Fireworks cause loud bangs in Green Lake neighborhood

What do you think? (3 Comments) June 17, 2011 at 10:26PM

Just after 10 p.m. tonight (Friday, June 17, 2011) five loud bangs could be heard in the Green Lake neighborhood.

We have received confirmation from several people who saw fireworks going off in the southeast area of Green Lake. Bay Anapol, who saw the fireworks out the window of her east Green Lake home, says that they looked to originate in the Woodland Park area, and Keith Logan, who is also in east Green Lake, said that they looked to be launched from Green Lake Park, just south of the Community Center.

Officer Wesley, who is working out of the Seattle Police Department’s North Precinct tonight, says that, as far as he knows, no permits have been issued for fireworks in the north end of Seattle tonight.

The use of fireworks is prohibited in the City of Seattle without a Seattle Fire Department permit. “If you see someone using illegal fireworks,” the Seattle Fire Department’s FAQ page advises, “call 9-1-1 and report the problem to the Seattle Police Department.”

Thanks for the clarification.  I heard the noise as well and was concerned, because I thought it was gunshots.  Keep up the good work of informing the neighborhood!

I managed to see a couple of fireworks go off when looking out my window following the first bangs. To me it looked like they were coming from the lake area, possibly the north east area.
