Green Lake’s two beaches open this Saturday (June 25, 2011).
The Green Lake wading pool will also open on Saturday if the weather forecast brightens a bit. Currently, Saturday’s high temperature is projected to be 65 degrees; the wading pool only opens when the sun is shining and the weather is forecast to be 70 degrees or above. The Seattle Futsal Academy is bringing the first annual Futsal Festival to the Green Lake Community Center on Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
SKWIM, a new water sport that combines elements from water polo and Ultimate Frisbee, is being officially launched at Evans Pool on Saturday afternoon. Three games will be played: 2:30-3:30, 3:30-4:30 and 4:30-5:30. There is a participation fee of $2.
Tour De Greenlake, featuring “thrift store bicycles, crazy costumes, & lots of laughs, on a tour of Greenlake’s finest watering holes,” will be making its way around the Green Lake neighborhood Saturday afternoon and evening.
Local author Stephanie Barden will be at Mockingbird Books on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The 7th annual Green Lake Open Water Swim (GLOWS), a ½-mile or 1-mile swim west to east across Green Lake, is Sunday.
Free performances of Henrik Ibsen’s classic Hedda Gabler are scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Seattle Public Theater at the Green Lake Bathhouse.
