A new cake shop and cafe is coming to Lakeside Plaza (7900 East Green Lake Dr N), across the street from the Green Lake wading pool.
Situated between Trattoria Cioppino and Zeeks Pizza, the 1,800+ square-foot property has stood vacant since May 2009, when Souped Up Cafe went out of business.
Helen Noh, who has operated a successful baking company since 2007, has leased the space. Cake Envy will operate as both a bakery and a cafe.

Cake Envy will offer cupcakes and cakes for special occasions, cake pops, and petits fours. Photo courtesy Helen Noh.
Caffe Umbria coffee and espresso drinks will be available, as well as teas. Helen hopes to offer locally-produced beer and wine in the future. There will be plenty of seating and free wifi.
The projected opening date is September 2011. The shop will be open every day and will close late: at 8 or 9 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays and midnight on weekends.
“Since I was a little girl I’ve wanted to be a baker,” Helen says. Her dream has always been to open a cake shop, and she says she couldn’t be more excited to be doing so in the Green Lake neighborhood. “I just love the way Green Lake makes me feel,” she says. “It feels so tight-knit. I love the families, and the active feeling that the neighborhood has.”
Helen is currently hiring. She is looking for baristas and bakers that can start in August. For more information, contact her at helen [at] cake-envy.com.
Welcome to Green Lake, Helen and Cake Envy!
