The 12th annual Tour De Greenlake is this Saturday (June 25, 2011).
A Geomium event page describes Tour De Greenlake as featuring “thrift store bicycles, crazy costumes, & lots of laughs, on a tour of Greenlake’s finest watering holes.”
You all know the drill: #1) Grab yourself a bike. Any bike will do, but it’s more fun if you have it decked out! #2) Wear something fun, crazy, stupid or illegal. (Maybe a see through top for the Ladies?) #3) Start drinking! (You’re no fun when you’re sober!!) All the bars will have drink specials for us!!
Meet at the Red Hen at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 25th and start to warm up by downing a few cold ones! We will leave there at precisely 2pm (or close too, as it sometimes takes awhile to get all the drunks to finish their drinks) to make our way around the lake to St. Andrews! The rest of the itinerary is as follows:
St. Andrews (Winona and Aurora) 2:15pm- 3:30pm
Kangaroo and Kiwi (Winona and Aurora) 3:30pm-4:30pm
Tacos Guaymas (6808 E. Greenlake Way 5pm- Fall down
“I went about 5 yrs ago and it was one of the best summer days I can barely remember,” wrote commenter Mookiemuke on last year’s My Green Lake post about the event. ”I don’t even mind the scars on my leg from crashing my bicycle because I was wearing high heel cowgirl boots. Great event with a great group of true friends.”
In 2009, a couple got married on the Tour De Greenlake, according to commenter LisaB. ”It is also a fun day to look forward to,” she added. “A nice change from the stress in our life. To do this tour all we ask is that you dress in costume and ride anything on wheels; just don’t drive! We all know why!”
The Tour de Green Lake is not affiliated with any formal group. It is always the last Saturday in June, and it always begins at 1 p.m. at Little Red Hen (7115 Woodlawn Ave NE).
