The 2011 Stormin’ the Lake event brought the Seattle Storm to Green Lake Park this afternoon (Saturday, May 28, 2011). The free annual event is held at the the outdoor basketball court next to the Green Lake Community Center (7201 E Green Lake Dr N). The event gives fans the opportunity to hear from the Seattle Storm team and coaches for the first time in the season. The Storm Dance Troupe performs, mascot Doppler makes an appearance, and players, coaches and fans all compete in a water balloon tossing contest. SPD arrests groping suspect at Green Lake Park
Last night (Friday, May 27, 2011) at approximately 7:46 p.m., Seattle Police responded to the 7200 block of E Green Lake Drive N for a reported sexual assault. According to an SPD Blotter post written by Detective Jeff Kappel, the female victim of the assault told officers that she had just been sexually assaulted while walking across the street from Green Lake Park. “Preliminary investigation indicates that an unknown male suspect passed by the victim on foot and then ran up behind her and groped her,” says Detective Kappel. ”When the victim screamed the suspect ran off.” Investigating officers conducted an area search and…
Green Lake Community Council Chairman Michael Cornell at forefront of group to recall McGinn
Green Lake Community Council Chairman and local Realtor Michael Cornell is at the forefront of a facebook group to ”Recall Mayor Mike McGinn.” While on News Talk 97.3 KIRO FM’s Dori Monson Show, Cornell described McGinn’s transportation policy as a “war waged on people who drive cars,” and said that McGinn started breaking promises as soon as he won the election. Go Go Ice Cream stand now open
Green Lake’s Go Go Ice Cream concession stand is open for summer business. The stand is located near the Green Lake Bathhouse Theatre on the northwest side of the lake (7312 West Green Lake Dr N).
