Last night (Friday, May 27, 2011) at approximately 7:46 p.m., Seattle Police responded to the 7200 block of E Green Lake Drive N for a reported sexual assault.

According to an SPD Blotter post written by Detective Jeff Kappel, the female victim of the assault told officers that she had just been sexually assaulted while walking across the street from Green Lake Park.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that an unknown male suspect passed by the victim on foot and then ran up behind her and groped her,” says Detective Kappel.  ”When the victim screamed the suspect ran off.”

Investigating officers conducted an area search and located the suspect on the walking path around Green Lake.  The victim positively identified the suspect and he was subsequently placed under arrest.

“It is unknown at this time if this suspect is connected to any other incidents that have occurred around the city,” says Detective Kappel. “Sexual Assault Unit detectives will be handling the follow up investigation.”

I was walking through there about 2 years ago, with my 2 dogs on leash, and had my butt grabbed by a guy who asked if he could pet my dogs. I exchanged one word “yes” before he walked around me as if to walk away (or so I thought) when he grabbed me. I was so shocked and completely frozen with disbelief regarding what had just happened, I didn’t do anything. I froze. A kind person who witnessed the whole thing, came up to me and told me to keep walking. I didnt know what else to do, so I did. Later, I told my boyfriend who was a firefighter at the greenlake station about it and he relayed it to some officers at the starbucks. They looked for the guy, but there efforts came to naught. Maybe it was the same person? I was 24 at the time…
