Green Lake’s Road Runner Sports (7020 Woodlawn Avenue NE) is hosting another First Thursday Adventure Run this Thursday (June 2, 2011).
The runs, which are free to participate in, begin at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month through November (sign-in begins at 5 p.m.). Participants meet at the parking lot next to Road Runner Sports.
“The format is simple,” Andrew Buswell, Retail Event Coordinator at Road Runner Sports says. “Participants are shown a large map with up to 12 ‘checkpoints’ on them and an hour to run or walk to as many as they can. Some of the checkpoints are as close as 50 yards, and none are further than three miles. Participants run to the checkpoints in whichever order they choose, which makes the event turn into a choose-your-own-adventure type of event. Most of the checkpoints are local businesses, but some are located at Seattle landmarks where participants must perform a task or conquer an obstacle to receive the raffle ticket. At each checkpoint, they receive a raffle ticket good for the huge raffle that happens at 7 p.m. Also, the beer garden opens up at 7 p.m., where Deschutes Brewery brings in it’s seasonal beers to taste and sample.”
Interested participants can RSVP on facebook or on the event website to receive a complimentary beer from Deschutes Brewery.
An afterparty at a Green Lake bar or restaurant follows each adventure run. This Thursday, the afterparty will be at the Green Lake Tacos Guaymas (6808 E Green Lake Way N). The afterparty starts at 7:30 p.m. and wraps up around 9 p.m.
