2011 Ted Houk Memorial Regatta
The Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club (SCKC) is hosting an international regatta at the south end of Green Lake this weekend (Saturday, June 4 and Sunday June 5, 2011). Athletes from the Puget Sound region, Western Canada and Hawaii will compete in Olympic-style flat water canoeing and kayaking at the 32nd Annual Ted Houk Memorial Regatta. Crosswalks and sidewalks surrounding Green Lake Elementary School to receive safety upgrades
Walking and biking improvements are coming soon to the area surrounding Green Lake Elementary School (2400 N 65th St). The improvements are being made by SDOT as a part of the Safe Routes to School program. The program is funded by the Bridging the Gap levy, passed by Seattle voters in 2006. Fire at N 71st St & Fremont Ave N
There was a fire in the basement of a house at 550 N 71st St St this afternoon (Sunday, May 29, 2011). The fire was called in shortly before 5 p.m. and firefighters quickly put it out, according to our news partner PhinneyWood. “The home’s occupants were not home at the time,” reports PhinneyWood, “but they did come running around the corner at about 5:35 p.m., and were relieved when firefighters told them their dog was safe at a neighbor’s house. They told firefighters they also had a cat, but they didn’t know if it was inside at the time of the fire.”
