This year’s American Cancer Society Green Lake Relay for Life will be Saturday, June 11, 2011 and Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Lower Woodland Park track. The event will run around the clock from 10 a.m. on Saturday until 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The Green Lake Relay for Life event chair, Kara McDermott, tells us that she has been involved in the event for six years. “I get asked a lot why I keep coming back,” she says. “Unfortunately, I have a laundry list of reasons.”
“Each year I choose Relay to remember family members and friends lost to cancer,” Kara says in a statement she wrote about her participation, “but it also gives me a chance to remember the survivors in my life as well: the grandmother who defied the odds on a veritable death sentence, the soccer coach who is now fighting. I choose the Green Lake event because this my hometown and to see the way that local businesses have supported us really highlights the potential that this event has to be fully embraced by the local community.”
